We are seeking an Weld Engineer, Automation with 5 years of experience to lead our Automation team as a multi-cell system owner in a high-mix / low-volume environment.

A successful Weld Engineer, Atomation at Webco will take full ownership of the automation lifecycle. Executing fixture design, offline programming, and touch-ups to rapidly launch parts into stable, repeatable production processes. It requires a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn from anything that doesn’t go as planned

Skills/Requirements:

  • Proven high-mix / low-volume automation experience (job shop or similar) – 5+ years
  • Experience with 3D modeling software + fixture design
  • Advanced OLP (robot pathing, indexing, touch-up reduction strategies)
  • Controls + integration (I/O, interlocks, basic PLC troubleshooting)
  • Strong fixture strategy (repeatability, distortion control, accessibility)
  • Ability to own full lifecycle: concept → build → launch → optimization
  • GD&T + print interpretation (weldments, assemblies)
  • Root cause / problem solving (RCA, cycle loss, quality issues)
  • Welding knowledge (MIG / weld symbols / WPS understanding)

Preferred:

  • FANUC / robotic certifications
  • PLC experience
  • AWS CWI or Welding Engineer certification
  • Lean / Six Sigma (RCA, OEE, waste reduction)
  • Multi-cell / multi-site standardization experience
  • Experience beyond weld (press brake, material handling, paint automation)

Job duties:

  • End-to-end ownership Weld Robotics (fixture → program → performance)
  • Robotic weld OLP (Visual Components)
  • High-mix / low-volume automation strategy (rapid changeover, flexible fixturing, scalable programming)
  • Cell + system optimization (cycle time, uptime, repeatability, quality)
  • Standards development (programming, fixturing, launch, validation)
  • Cross-functional leadership (engineering ↔ production ↔ maintenance)
  • 10–30% cycle time reduction vs manual welding
  • First-pass yield ↑, rework ↓, throughput ↑
  • Drives utilization of robotic weld + automation assets
